Neurodivergent Clients
Normal? I’m sorry, is that a thing? All brains work differently. Some just work a little more differently. The world can be overwhelming when it wasn’t built for a person like you. Let’s structure therapy to work with your beautiful brain, not against it.
How do I even know if I am neurodivergent?
For some it may be obvious that your brain works in a different way than a lot of other people or than how the world expects your brain to function, for others you may just now be realizing you might fit in this category. Together we can get some clarity or I can refer you for higher levels of testing. Once we know how YOU best function, then I can provide tools and help you find the best ways to navigate the world we live in to optimize your potential and happiness. Common types of neurodivergence are Autism, ADHD, and learning disorders. Many are diagnosed in children, but often they can go overlooked. You might be struggling with day-to-day tasks that others seem to accomplish easily because they were tasks built for a brain that doesn’t work the way yours does. You aren’t alone! There are many others like you and there are many tools that can help.
Evidence-Based Therapy for Autism
Autistic children, teens, and adults can thrive with the right supports in place. Evidence-based therapies—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for managing anxiety, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or naturalistic developmental approaches for building skills, and Speech and Occupational Therapy for communication and sensory needs—have been shown to improve quality of life. Research also highlights the value of family therapy, social skills training, and mindfulness-based supports in reducing stress and strengthening relationships.
Therapy doesn’t aim to change who an autistic person is, but rather to honor their unique ways of experiencing the world while giving them tools to navigate challenges, communicate more effectively, and feel supported in relationships. Evidence shows that when interventions are individualized and strengths-based, autistic clients report greater confidence, reduced anxiety, and stronger connections with others.
Evidence-Based Therapy for ADHD
People with ADHD often bring creativity, energy, and unique problem-solving skills to the world, but they may also struggle with focus, organization, emotional regulation, or follow-through. Evidence-based therapies—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for building coping strategies, Mindfulness-Based Therapy for improving attention and reducing impulsivity, and Behavioral Parent Training for children—have all been shown to improve daily functioning and reduce stress.
Therapy for ADHD focuses on practical skills and emotional support: learning how to manage time and tasks, regulate strong feelings, communicate effectively, and strengthen relationships. Research shows that when therapy is individualized and strengths-based, people with ADHD experience greater self-confidence, reduced anxiety, and an increased ability to harness their strengths in both personal and professional life. Together we can brainstorm the best way to gamify your life and find success!
Evidence-Based Therapy for Learning Disorders
Learning disorders such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia affect the way the brain processes reading, writing, or math. These challenges are not a reflection of intelligence but rather differences in how information is received and expressed. Evidence-based approaches like specialized academic interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for reducing frustration and building resilience, and multi-sensory teaching methods (such as Orton-Gillingham for reading) have been shown to improve outcomes. Your child may be showing behavioral symptoms because they haven’t been diagnosed with the correct learning disorder.
Therapy helps by addressing both the practical and emotional impact of learning disorders. Clients can build coping strategies for school and work, improve self-esteem, and learn ways to advocate for their needs. Research shows that when children and adults receive targeted support along with emotional validation, they are more likely to thrive academically, socially, and personally.
Do I need an expert?
Maybe! Depending on your unique level of functioning we can determine if my skills are the right level of care for you. I focus on individuals that function without the need for full-time caretakers. While I do have training in all of these areas, I am not an expert in any one of them. If I am not the right fit, I can connect you with experts for your needs. Book a call today.
